Mine vs. Theirs

I hit the mother load in thrift store treasures at St. Vincent de Paul on Wednesday!

I am going to start a blog segment called mine vs. theirs. I will show you how you can get very similar items at a fraction of the price.

So here goes…

I have been wanting a cloche. Mine was $2…

image

Theirs is $73 and I don’t even like the knob thingy on top, lol…

image

I love this little resin bunny. Mine was $1.50…

image

Theirs is $26!…

image

I really liked everything about this pink bunny…other than it was PINK (oh, and the ribbon)! Mine was $3…

image

Theirs is $17…

image

And look at mine now after some chalky finish mink spray paint. He’s almost a chocolate bunny, and no more hideous ribbon!

image

This fleur de lis was $2…

image

Theirs is $118…Whaaaat!!

image

I’m in love with this dome topped bird cage! It was only $4!!

image

Theirs is $95!!…

image

I wouldn’t want to pay these prices even if I had the money!

Here are some other great things I found on Wednesday!

I saw these little plaques a couple days before but didn’t want to pay $3 each. I waited, and they were on sale for $1 each!

image

These small mirrors were 65% off, making them 35 cents each!

image

The bird pot and basket shown below were each 75 cents! The white urn was $2.

image

These sconces were 1.50 each…

image

And look at the original price…$39!!

image

I saved the best for last. Look at this (rather ugly) flower arrangement I got for $1.50…

image

Look at the flowers after I tore them apart and added them to my milk glass…

image

And how could I resist Marilyn for 70 cents?!

Please let me know if you see something that you would love to have.

I am looking into renting booth space at an antique mall.

Thanks for stopping by! Check back soon for more thrift store treasures!

Chalk It Up

image

We finally completed our chalkboard. The girls worked together on it.

If you know my kids; you can probably guess that there was quite a bit of yelling. It turned out great in the end. I love the different fonts.

We haven’t hung it yet. It is really heavy, and we need to get the proper hardware.

It is the best buck we have ever spent. It sure is a far cry from this old mirror…

The hubby and I went to Goodwill Saturday afternoon. We had a successful treasure hunt.

We got this demilune table for $10. We are going to paint it with blue chalk paint and apply an antique wax finish to give it an aged look. Stay tuned for that!

Here are some of the smaller treasures we got at half price…

                Silver candle sticks $2.50

image

                        Candle holder $1.50

image

Light house lantern, white bowl $4

image

                       Wooden owl stool $2

My kids may not always get along perfectly but they are currently engaged in a singing contest. I really hope they grow up to be best friends and live…

image

(I got this little wooden sign at a garage sale last summer for $1.)

Here is one final look at the awesome chalkboard that was repurposed from an old mirror.

Have a great week, and check back soon for more treasures and finished projects.

Simplify Your Space

image

My my new motto for the last several months has been simplicity. Life can be so so crazy with work, kids, school, sports…the list goes on and on.

It’s important to remember what really matters in life. Simplicity allows more time and energy for the important things. They are actually not things at all…they are the people you love.

We painted our daughters’ bedrooms in the fall before school started. We dejunked and simplified their spaces so they could start back to school on the right foot.

We made a DIY vanity for our oldest by installing a floating shelf, and adding a stool. This is a great option if you don’t have a lot of space for a large vanity.

This once black mirror has hung in a couple different rooms in our house (yes, I like to change things up quite often). A coat of white paint gave it a fresh, crisp look.

image

We scored this small table and shelf for free at a local church “free” yard sale. Can you believe the table was red and the shelf was bright green?

Paint can definitely give new life to old items. Don’t be afraid to use leftover wall paint too. We added a stool so it could function as a desk.

I cannot wait for garage sale season to start! We paid $1 for this solid wood mirror. It was definitely outdated but we had a vision…

Here is our new chalkboard! My handsome hubby used 2 different colors of chalkboard spray paint.

We are going to jazz it up with a cute quote and hang it this weekend. I can’t wait to show you how it turns out.

Enjoy the simple things and stay tuned for more treasures!
